Stag & Doe
Last night was our Stag & Doe and, while Cressa and I weren’t up to full speed today as a result, it was a fantastic night. Many thanks go out to everyone who came, but specifically to Laura & Mike and Jen & Dan who helped at the door running events, and especially to Greg & Shelley who organized the whole thing.
The “official” part of the night took place in The Red Baron Lounge at the Brick Brewery in Uptown Waterloo from 8:00-10:00. We sold about 50 tickets (the capacity of the room), and nearly everyone who bought one came so we had a good turn out. We had the Stag & Doe staples like the Toonie Toss and raffle, and two hours of free beer before we had to take the party elsewhere.
Most of the crowd went directly to the Silver Spur but a few of us took a detour to the Duke of Wellington on the way there1. I got to hang out with Scott and Aden for a while longer before they had to take off, and then Mark, Catherine, Mike and I caught up to everyone else at The Spur.
As its name suggests, The Silver Spur is a country bar. What it’s name doesn’t tell you is that it’s a karaoke country bar. And it smells like deep-fried… fries? It’s not high on my list of places to hang out, but with a crowd of 30 people that you know, you can sort of turn it into your own party. Your own, boiling vegetable oil-scented, party.
We stayed up until last call before finally heading home and passing out. We were both fine examples of restraint and, despite people generously providing us with drinks all night, managed to escape with only headaches today and even managed to leave the house by the afternoon.
Thanks again to everyone who organized the event, and to everyone who came out. Having a big party was a good way to distract me from the fact that, as of last Thursday, I have less than one month of freedom left
1Somehow I only just now realized the aptness of a pub called “The Duke of Wellington” in Waterloo.
I’m sure we discussed the whole Duke of Wellington/Battle of Waterloo thing before. Although, considering what usually takes place there, I’m not too surprised you’ve forgotten
Looks like a good time. Congrats. Say hi to your sammich hole.
