Honeymoon, Days 3 & 4
Pictures from day 3 and day 4 of our honeymoon are up.
Day 3 in St. Lucia (Friday) was our first big “tour” day. We signed up for a shopping tour in the morning and a cruise in the evening.
The shopping tour was mostly a way for us to get to see the capital city of Castries. There were some interesting stops where we saw things like silk-screening, wood carving and batik in process, as well as some less interesting stops like the duty-free area where all of the cruise-ship passengers can disembark, buy perfume and large bottles of liquor, and then mark St. Lucia off on their list of islands visited.
We also got to spend about an hour wandering around downtown Castries. We stopped in at the local Bank of Nova Scotia (just down the street from the Royal Bank of Canada) to get change and while the outside isn’t much to look at, the inside was more modern than some of the branches I’ve been in here.
The evening cruise was aboard the “Brig Unicorn“, a replica of a 19th century brig. This was one of the highlights of the trip for me, given my penchant for sailing ships. We spent most of the time cruising with the engine, but eventually sailed along with the wind. As we turned around to sail home we got to watch two of the hands climb the rigging to furl the sails.
There was a band on the boat playing sort of traditional songs. Their instruments had seen better days, but it was a nice change from the steel drums and reggae that played almost everywhere else.
Saturday we had a complimentary massage and manicure/pedicure (Cressa got the manicure, I got the pedicure) in the morning as part of our honeymoon package. We spent the afternoon on the beach and investigated mojitos (we’d never had them before). Saturday night was our “Celebration Dinner” at Le Jardin where we had absolutely amazing steak, after which we watched (I think) “Constantine“. Nothing says “honeymoon” like a Keanu Reeves movie!
