Much as we’d expected, the new house is not likely to spontaneously implode in the near future, nor does it appear to be simply cobbled together from asbestos and chips of lead paint. We also didn’t notice any signs of poltergeists, banshees, phantasms or Stay-Puft Marshmallow Men. As such, all conditions have been waived and [ READ MORE ]
Since inquiring minds want to know, the map below (hopefully) shows the general area of our new place (if we know you, we’ll happily give you the actual address in some other medium, but I’m not going to broadcast it on the inter-tubes right now). <br /><a style=”color: #0000ff; text-align: left; font-size: small” mce_href=”http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=1&ll=43.460364,-80.43256&spn=0.010825,0.020084&z=16&source=embed” xhref=”http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=1&ll=43.460364,-80.43256&spn=0.010825,0.020084&z=16&source=embed”>View [ READ MORE ]
Cressa and I went to look at two houses tonight. I was kind of thinking that I’d end up writing a series of blog posts about our house hunting experience, but that idea is down the tubes, since – conditional on the usual things like the house not being deemed structurally unsound – we’re not [ READ MORE ]
That was pretty much our weekend. Friday at lunch and Saturday morning we talked to a couple places about getting a mortgage. It looks like we’ve done a pretty good job of paying our bills on time, so we’re pre-approved for what we think we’d like to spend on a house (with a bit of [ READ MORE ]
This is pretty bad-ass. It’s a video presentation from SIGGRAPH 2007 on “Content-Aware Image Resizing” which sounds exceptionally dull until you see the video and (close to the end) watch the algorithm completely remove people from photographs[ READ MORE ]
A couple people asked and since I started the story, it’s probably only good form to finish it. Plus, now when the 29th Century Blog Archeologists find this, they won’t be left hanging. I got our cracked windshield replaced at Apple Auto Glass last Tuesday, and everything went as smoothly as I’d hoped. I showed [ READ MORE ]
Go to a place that specializes in replacing windshields. I picked Apple Autoglass, but there’s also Speedy and probably others. I haven’t even gotten the windshield replaced yet, so I’m sort of trusting that they’ve got that covered, but based on the five minutes I spent in their store today (compared to the hours I [ READ MORE ]
I’m having a hard time with hardware these days. Last week my new motherboard turned out to be defective (but was promptly replaced under warranty). This weekend the windshield on our new car developed a large crack, necessitating a whole new windshield (due to arrive sometime next week). Now, it appears the latest Xbox 360 [ READ MORE ]
Cressa and I went and picked up our wedding photos from the photographer tonight. We got a DVD full of photos, two nice albums full of prints, and a DVD slide show. He also put together a web site for us, so you can see everything at www.cressaandjohn.ca. Once again, if anyone’s looking for a [ READ MORE ]
New motherboard arrived today and is installed and working as expected. Kudos to TigerDirect.ca for their customer support. Getting a replacement board was an entirely painless process (well, except for the having to take everything apart bit)[ READ MORE ]
